Oracle has always been quick to point out that they are the only ones who can offer an entire stack from hardware over platform to applications. So far, they have only leveraged that strength in public cloud offerings, where you can buy as many levels of Cloud from Oracle as you want (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

But with the recent announcement of the Oracle Cloud Machine, you can now get your own Oracle hardware inside your data center, alleviating a big concern in many highly regulated industries. And of course, you don’t get the elastic scaling you get in the public cloud – after all, get a machine of a finite capacity.
